Fall

My roots deepened to keep warm

As did my love to sooth you more.

You tried sprouting in the Fall

But the frost came bite you hard

So you stood by to keep warm

Your roots cooled like the Fall

As did your heart towards mine

And like a trembling branch leaf,

Your hand let go from holding mine

So you went about your flight

You soared high over the winds

Until the raindrops trampled you

Into my hands that I held out

But you seeped through my fingers

And hit the ground, as did my knees

We found our only path beneath us

That would eventually bring Summer rays

But not before we lose our colour,

Start to wither to the Winter

And beg for soil’s leftover life

But Fall’s curse cannot be broken

And no leaf escapes its fate

Nor does any path evades the frost

Like that set over your heart

So we walk on the Valley of Death
