Sarah’s Last Dance
This poem is written inspired by Sarah McLaughlan's song entitled "Last Dance." I invite you to experiance the comination of my poem and Sara's song, listening while reading.
Yesterday I was so cold
The wind whistled against me
And my feet could hardly step
Step towards healing heat
So sorrow froze over my face
Yesterday I lost my path
Nobody’s near to follow instead
And helpless, though they searched it,
Let me go on my new road
So my tears marked my new soil
Tonight I will lose my battle
Winter soon to be victorious
For Fall bows out at midnight.
That’s why it has been so cold
So my fists clench to endure it
But it’s curious ‘a path
I feel it not beneath my feet
And here the wind is tamest
And so peacefully cold
So I dry my tears away
An audience adorns my path
Watching me, all kindly smile.
There is a soft melody heard
For me, a ballad composed
So I listen to find where it’s from
It is straight ahead of us
Where a bright light I see glow
It’s the sun and I will conquer!
Leaves stand to clap in the wind
So onwards, Fall cheers me
Everyone is still but me
Am I floating or by father carried?
Mother, come along with us!
The ballad has commenced
And daddy’s the conductor
Mother come please, come!
Daddy don’t go, please come back!
Now, for midnight will strike!
And I see our Father took my hand
So I dance amid the snowflakes
