Daniela Oana - Poet and Photographer
Piano Blues
I’m soothed by such faint piano -
By the jazz it is a part of.
Pure ivory keys playing for me
Lulled by whisky and rocks
Near this bar I reminisce by
Amid couples on first dates.
I’ve made peace with thoughts of you
That hidden poetry and prose won’t stop.
I’ve come for an encounter here
That shapes you right before me.
I’ve stirred my spirit and my ice
That pain and aches once crushed.
The dim lights hide you slightly -
Sets you cautiously into the background.
The ambiance around silences you -
Sets your tone lower and gentle,
And every couple here tonight
Sets safety, should you strike.
But I tend to often lose you –
Thoughts spaz you in and out –
Though my disillusion of you
Knows you’d chose to stay.
Alas, I’ve lost my grip on you
Over the years blurring you out.
So I listen on to the piano,
To the chatter and the clinks,
And with whisky in our tired eyes,
We spot each other at odd corners
But with limbs and hearts so heavy
We turn back to our own blues.
